Broadcasting and cable are two different terms, although the two are inter-related in the overall field of media and entertainment. Specifically speaking, broadcasting refers to the overall distribution network for audio and video material. The material is distributed to a select audience group through audio or visual mass communication media. Apart from commercial purposes, broadcasting is also used for private, non-commercial purposes. Radio, television and cable media are some of the most commonly used and traditional forms of broadcasting. Any kind of broadcasting station requires some kind of funding to operate and this may be in the form of donations, government payments, subscriptions, membership and advertisements and sponsorships. On the other hand, the term ‘cable’ refers to cable television which is responsible for distribution of television programmes through radio frequency signals. In India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is responsible for the administration of broadcasting and cable-related services within the country. Hide this
