Biotechnology comprises a very rapidly growing sector of the country’s economy. India has a number of competitive advantages with regard to other regions which make it conducive for the development of the biotechnology sector. Some of these advantages include availability of the required knowledge level and skilled workforce, proper research and development facilities and cost efficiency. The biotechnology industry can be broadly categorised into a number of sub-sectors such as biopharma, bioservices, bioagriculture, bioinformatics and bioindustrials. Out of these, biopharma has been a significant contributor to the overall industry as India is now well known for production of high quality drugs at an economical price. The government has extended support to the growth of the biotechnology sector recently and individual states are also in the process of formulating biotech policies. The need of the hour is to provide more investment and export facilities for the overall development of this important industry. Hide this
