A Blu-ray Disc is a much advanced form of the DVD, primarily in the sense that it can store a larger amount of data. A Blu-ray Disc is however, also an optical disc storage medium. While being the same size as DVDs, traditional Blu-ray Discs can store upto 25 GB of data per layer. The industry norm for feature-length video discs comprises dual layer discs (50 GB). Blu-ray Discs are mainly used for storing feature films. Blu-ray Discs are also capable of rendering much higher definition for audio and video than DVDs. Blu-ray Discs initially competed with HD DVD devices, which were later phased out in their favour. From then on, Blu-ray Discs became the industry standard for optical discs that had high density. Another variation of Blu-ray Discs is the Mini Blu-ray Disc that can store comparatively lesser amount of data at around 7.5 GB. The marketing and use of Blu-ray Discs is still at a nascent stage in India. While many people are still unaware of the very concept, Blu-ray Discs and players have very limited demand among upper class English movie fans in the country’s tier 1 metros.
