India is one of the largest manufacturers of food worldwide and this automatically makes food manufacturing and food processing an important segment of the country’s economy. In recent years, the government has played an important role in encouraging food manufacturers through provision of export-related benefits and setting up of cold storage chains and mega food parks within the country. However, the industry needs to further its expansion through technological upgradation, more investment all along the supply and value chain and better training of the workforce involved.
