Printing inks can be classified into a number of categories that include web offset inks, quickset inks, water-based inks and non-porous inks. The printing ink industry caters to a number of other industrial segments such as newspapers, publishing and flexible packaging. In India, the web offset inks market comprises the dominant category. However, although the printing inks industry has recorded a significant increase in terms of volumes and value, the industry’s average price per kg of ink has not increased much in recent years. In fact, printing ink manufacturers are under great pressure to reduce prices, often at the cost of quality. At the same time, the recent wave of digital technology in the domestic printing industry has also resulted in significant quality upgradation for printing ink manufacturers.
