India’s energy and utilities segment can be broadly categorised into sub-sectors such as electrical energy, wind power, solar energy, oil, nuclear power, hydro energy, bio-fuel as well as other renewable sources of energy. Out of these, the country’s overall capacity for energy generation is overwhelmingly dependant on fossil fuel, with coal having the largest share. Other sources of energy generation include crude oil and natural gas. On the other hand, the utilities section is mainly concerned with the process of power transmission and distribution, electrical products and services, and so on. India’s rate of consumption of energy is growing at a rapid pace, and the country is one of the world’s fastest growing markets for energy generation. At the same time, a large section of the population has limited access to different forms of energy, especially electrical energy. With the rapid depletion of fossil fuel, other renewable sources of energy such as solar and nuclear energy need to be urgently developed to cater to the demands of the growing population. Hide this
